New for the office

We are really excited about our new office furniture designed by our good friend Alex Blakley from AB Architekten. Below is a workstation prototype. We can't wait to say goodbye to our home depot desks that are actually doors.

On the first Monday of every month we get designers together to chit and chat over eats and drinks. And because we're designers, each event gets a new mark. This month our good friend Jose Antonio Contreras designed the logo. I love it!

Build your own boat!

We worked on the 2009 River to River program and included this fun center spread. Just tear it out and it gives you step-by-step instructions on building your own boat.

Monday Mashup 2

Monday, March 1
7pm, Loreley

The next Mashup is just around the corner. And because we're designers, each month we're going to introduce a new logo for the event (I know... we're crazy like that). For you future participants, the bar has been raised ridiculously high this month as Travis Cain created this ambigram. I have absolutely no idea how he did it... but it's crazy cool.

Check out some picts from Mashup 1 on our facebook page. See you Monday.

Monday Mashup folks!

On the first Monday of every month Sam Eckersley (RED) and Laura Gunther (ESI Design) will be hosting a social gathering of established designers that are looking to meet their peers over a drink. We're going to meet at 7pm at Loreley in the Lower East Side at 7 Rivington Street. Our goal with this event is to create a casual setting for people to connect, collaborate, get inspired, and create opportunities.

Monday Mashups got started with its first event on Monday, February 1st and we had a nice turn out. Find out more about the event on the Monday Mashup facebook page. Hope to see you at the next gathering.

Red & Grey in Green & Orange

When I see portfolios I like, I often catch myself using the line "It looks like you had fun doing this". You can tell when a designer enjoyed the process of creating something, and it often ends with positive results.

I recently came across the Dublin based design studio Red & Grey Design. Digging through their site, I was really drawn to their work... it's smart and beautifully executed. But what most intrigued me about these guys was their ability to do such solid work while also acting like complete nuts. Dig through their site and you'll see what I'm talking about. A perfect example here (keep scrolling to the bottom). Cheers to Red & Grey for their solid design and having fun doing it.

On a side note, I decided to buy their book, and in return got this "Sam-o-gram" as a thank you. Good to see the WHAM! guys' eye has healed.
